Transparent conductive coatings are widely used in optical systems. Depending on the sheet resistivity, these coatings can be utilized in numerous applications such as EMI / RFI shielding, static elimination, de-icing, holography and LCD. Indium tin oxide (ITO) coatings are transparent, electrically conductive films with excellent durability, and high visible and near infrared transmission. They are extensively used in applications where conductive grids and screens introduce unacceptable degradation in the system’s performance. Low resistivity ITO films also exhibit good reflectance above 3.0µm and can be applied to a wide range of substrates. CVI Optical Components offers indium tin oxide coatings with sheet resistivities ranging from 7 ohms/sq. to 200 ohms/sq. and up. We can coat substrates up to 12" in diameter with various surface configurations. The coatings will pass the standard adhesion, abrasion and humidity tests of MIL-C-48497. Improved transmission characteristics can be obtained by overlaying the ITO layer with an antireflection coating. The diameter of the AR coating is nominally slightly smaller than that of the indium tin oxide layer, leaving some of the conductive area exposed for electrical connections.
